Step 1
Create a product record
From the private workspace, enter a recognizable name and optional SKU. Add an origin and a complete 10-digit US HTS code only when you have enough classification evidence to select it.
- The product belongs to the authenticated user and workspace.
- The selected classification remains linked to its tariff schedule and data version.
- A reference customs value is context, not a live shipment value.
Step 2
Start a current calculation
Open the product and choose Start current calculation. TariffCalc prefills only the stored HTS code and origin. Every current shipment field remains blank and required.
A prefilled code is not a new customs ruling. Reconfirm the classification when the product, materials, use, origin facts or tariff schedule changes.
Step 3
Confirm all current facts
Enter the current import date, customs value, shipping, insurance, quantity and unit, transport mode, entry type and HMF applicability. “Not sure” deliberately produces review-required warnings where needed.
Step 4
Save the reviewed result
After reviewing formulas, warnings and sources, save the result to the workspace. The snapshot is immutable and becomes part of the product history. A later calculation creates a new record rather than rewriting the old one.
You can also start a new shipment from an existing saved calculation. That path carries forward only its historical HTS code and origin and requires all current shipment facts again.
